Back In DC!!!!
This blog will also contain information about my life in DC. Since my job requires a good amount of discretion I can not tell you what office I am working for or who I am (although some of you can obviously figure it out). I would ask that those who know me would avoid identifying me in their comments. I would like to keep my job.
Since I have already interned in Washington, D.C. I can promise, from experience, that this blog will not be boring. Something is always going on and I plan to relay events to you through this blog. I also must warn you that I plan on giving some opinions on political issues, so please try not to take offense. However, I do welcome a good arguement. I always want to learn more, so if you think it is an issue that I have been misinformed about by all means say something. If you like what I have to say or want to add something, your comments are appreciated!
Impossible????
After many years of struggling with weight loss and healthy living, I have finally come up with a plan that some may deem INSANE!!! I'm not going to lie to you, I am starting to question my own sanity. What I have done is entered a half marathon. Seems easy enough, but here is the kicker - I am at least 120lbs over weight, I have never run more than a mile without stopping, I can still be considered an asthmatic (likely caused by my weight), and the half-marathon is November 15, 2009. For those of you slow at math, that is 85 days until my FAT BUTT has to run 13.1 miles without stopping!!!! Understand now why I question my sanity.
What Marathon and Why?
The half marathon I have chosen is the Rock n' Roll marathon in San Antonio, Texas http://san-antonio.competitor.com/. I chose this marathon for several reasons: 1) it is where I can get the most support - my family and friends all live in Texas. Support is very important when trying to accomplish the deemed impossible; 2) I LOVE MUSIC - this marathon has bands playing at every mile marker; 3) I LOVE SAN ANTONIO - I have always enjoyed the people and the culture San Antonio offers; 4) I can't weasel my way out of it - I had to buy a plane ticket that is not refundable, which means I have to go; I also already purchased my $90 spot in the marathon, so I'M DOING THIS; 5) I have several good friends already running in the marathon; and 6) They have BEER at the end!
Yes Diet and Exercise Does Work. They Were Right All These Years!
Why is beer so important to me? I have given it up until after I cross the finish line! Beer is not the only thing I have given up. I have been put on a strict diet, which mostly consists of grilled or boiled chicken, fish, steamed vegetables, some fruit, very little carbohydrates (unless I am doing a long run), salads, no dressings or condiments unless it's mustard and lots and lots of water!!!!! One of my trainers, which we will refer to as M&M will probably want to make corrections to the above list of diet items. I seem to always get something wrong, but praise God for smart healthy people. HA HA! I am totally okay with being considered a "Healthy Rookie" and will welcome any advice my readers have.
As far as the training aspect is concerned I will update my blog everyday with what I have done. I will add total miles, how long it took me, calories burned, miles/hr, and how I feel (because I think that is very important, plus it gives me a chance to bitch!!!!).
What's With the Blog?
I wrote the blog because I feel that I need to be held accountable. I think that this might be what I have been missing during my last failed attempts at losing weight and starting a healthy lifestyle. It is proven that people are more likely to succeed if they have a good, solid support system. That's what you get to be! My support system and I love you for it!!!! You will get to be with me through the day to day struggles, the progress, the set backs, the pain, the accomplishments, the training, the dieting, and of course the half marathon!!!! Please feel free to message me about anything. You can even yell at me if you feel like I screwed up or I need to work harder. Your support is greatly appreciated!
God Will Be My Strength
I am a true believer that all things are possible through God! I wear this saying on a bracelet that my mother gave me everyday since my last internship in DC Spring 2008. Without God I will not be able to accomplish this. God and His Son will be my strength and as part of my training (which I consider to be the most important part) I will meditate daily on His word. The glory is Gods and Gods alone!
Bring on the PAIN!!!!!
So here we go! Starting a new life today. I want to live my life with no limits and my weight is definitely a limit. I am inspired by my grandmother who just passed away recently. She was definitely a woman who lived her life without any limits. She did her best in everything and she is the strongest person I know. Even up until her very last breath she fought, so it is my turn to fight. I can beat this and I WILL run this half marathon.
As of right now I run for God, my grandmother, my family, M&M, and myself! This is my motivation!!!!
